“Success is a matter of understanding and religiously practicing specific, simple habits that always lead to success.”
~Robert J. Ringer~

First forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you’re inspired or not…Habit is persistence in practice.
~Octavia Butler~

“Bad habits are like a comfortable bed, easy to get into, but hard to
get out of.”
~Proverb~

Most of our failings are habits we have allowed ourselves to form and keep. We will probably never be perfect, but we can be less imperfect.
~Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions of the Al-Anon Groups, 1980

“The more severe the pain or illness, the more sever will be the necessary changes. These may involve breaking bad habits, or acquiring some new and better ones.”
~Peter McWilliams~

“First we make our habits, then our habits make us.”
~Charles C. Noble~

“The thought manifests as the word The word manifests as the deed The deed develops into habit And habit hardens into character. So watch the thought and its ways with care, And let it spring from love born out of concern for all beings.”
~The Buddha~

“Winning is not a sometime thing it’s an all time thing. You don’t win once in a while, you don’t do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.”
~Vince Lombardi~

Habit is either the best of servants or the worst of masters.
~Nathaniel Emmons~

“Most people live, whether physically, intellectually or morally, in a very restricted circle of their potential being. They make use of a very small portion of their possible consciousness, and of their soul’s resources in general, much like a man who, out of his whole bodily organism, should get into a habit of using and moving only his lttle finger. Great emergencies and crises show us how much greater our vital resources are than we had supposed.”

~Stephen Covey~

Happy Friday everyone. I hope everyone is well prepared for the inclement weather this weekend! I say make the most of it. We’ll all be inside so hang out with some important people in your life and have some fun!

It’s my sincere hope that this weeks focus on habits has served to help every to start taking a look at the things that we’re doing regularly that are not serving us. Developing the ability to change habits is the development of personal power. It will open up a new word of possibilities in the lives of all who are willing to dedicate themselves to change. It will lead to the lives that are truly meant for us!

If you do not take a look at the habits that don’t serve you and make a commitment to change them what will your life look like this time next year? If you don’t make the changes from bad habits to success habits what will your life look like 5 years from now? What about 10? It is a fact that if you keep doing the things you’ve been doing you will keep getting the same results. If you are perfectly fine with those results than forget what I’ve said. But if you’re like most people and want more the time is always right NOW to do what it takes to get it!!!

So since these weekly themes are going to be a new Habit for Arise Ventures I’d like to get some feedback on what you guys think about this format moving forward. Also what topics you’d like for us to discuss. Please shoot me a quick note with your thoughts!!!

Have an amazing weekend!!!

“A very slight change in our habits is sufficient to destroy our sense of our daily reality, and the reality of the world about us; the moment we pass out of our habits we lose all sense of permanency and routine.”
~George Moore~

What do you feel about your current reality? On a scale of 1 – 10 would you say that you are consistently living at a 10 in all important areas of your life? If your answer is yes it’s likely your bar for what a 10 is is set very very low. For just about everyone I know the answer will no doubt be lower. This means there is always room for improvement!

Continuing on this weeks theme of improving upon our habits the most striking thing to me about this quote is Mr. Moore’s statement that even a slight change in habit is sufficient to destroy our daily reality. The word destroy generally has a negative connotation to it but in this case it doesn’t. We might feel comfortable with our routines and our sense of permanency but these things don’t always serve us when they keep us in the same place. Life is all about growth! Destruction of the things that stand in the way of our highest ideals is destruction that we should look forward to! Destruction of a reality that is less than we are capable of is destruction we should yearn for in the process of creating our best life.

So going back to yesterday… Have you chosen your one habit for the quarter that you will remove from your life and replace with a success habit? Or do you have a habit of reading positive material but not acting on it?

Bonus: “A nail is driven out by another nail; habit is overcome by habit.” ~Latin Proverb~

“The Individual who wants to reach the top in business much appreciate the might and force of habit. He must be quick to break those habits that can break him-and hasten to adopt those practices that will become the habits that help him achieve the success he desires.”
~J. Paul Getty~

Time for a Terrific Tuesday!!! Who’s with me?

It is said by many Psychologist that up to 90% of our day to day actions are Habitual. That means from the time we get up in the morning until we retire we do the same things over and over again everyday without even thinking of it. This cuts both ways depending on your habits. No matter who we are we have somethings we can improve upon. The important thing to remember is that you cannot change all your bad habits at once. Things we’ve been doing for years whether good or bad become so firmly entrenched that it will take diligent work and focus in order to reverse them. One of the best books I’ve ever read the Success Principles by Jack Canfield suggest we Develop 4 Success Habits per year. That’s one per quarter.

“Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.”
~Warren Buffett~

I would disagree with Mr. Buffett on the second half of this statement. Though it’s harder to break habits the longer you’ve had them it is very rarely impossible if your committed to it. So lets think of ourselves 3 months from today. November 23rd 2011. What one habit if removed and replaced from your life would serve to move you forward the most? Please don’t take this question lightly. Answering this question and creating a plan to act on it on will without a doubt move you on to higher levels of success in life. It will cement in your mind just how possible it is to improve in any area of life you desire. This will increase your confidence and you help move forward with removing and replacing a second habit and then a third. Make this process a new part of life and 5 years from now you will have replaced 20 bad habits with Success Habits. This kind of change is not incremental it’s transformational and it all starts right now for those who are ready? Are you?

(Breaking) ritual habit, ritual normality that seals our eyes and ears…you can advance, see things you never saw before, move out of boundaries that have been a prison.
~Wilson Harris~

Happy Monday Morning Ladies & Gents!!! I’m feeling especially fantastic today and it brings me great joy to share my energy and enthusiasm with each and every one of you!!! We’re going to do things a little different this week and moving forward. Instead of random topics everyday we are going to start using weekly themes to really concentrate on providing the highest possible value we can every week. Focusing on particular areas will serve to strengthen the affect that each topic has on each of us. I hope you all like the change!

So in thinking about the best place to start I could find no better topic than that of Habits. I placed today’s quote in bold because it is worth a second and third read. Habits are the foundation of our day to day behavior and any significant long term change and growth in our lives must begin with changing the habitual patterns in our lives that we follow without even thinking of them. So what are your best and worse habits? What are the things you do regularly and almost unconsciously that significantly move your life forward and what are the things you do regularly that hold you back. It’s important to start here because by recognizing the things we’re doing right we can strengthen them and their affect on our lives. When we look closely at the things that are not going so well we can identify strategies for change!

Do you have a healthy diet? How’s your exercise regimen? Are you watching to much TV? Do you spend too much time surfing the Internet? Do you procrastinate too much? Do you get angry to quickly? Do you tell your family and friends you love them? Do you gossip? Do you focus on problems or solutions? Do you constantly complain? Do you wash your hands after using the bathroom? Do you smoke cigarettes? Do you drink too much? Do you spend more money than you earn? I could go on and on but I think you get the point.

Whatever your answer to these questions you will probably notice trends in one direction or the other. These trends are either helping you to live the life of your dreams or they are imprisoning you and keeping you from the future you most desire. Habits will not change themselves. You must do it and you must be intentional about it. There is no time like the present to begin. If not now, then when?

Lets make this an amazing habit changing week!!!!

“We do not remember days; we remember moments.”
~Cesare Pavese~

Happy Friday Folks!!!

Many people go through life doing everything they can to have great days, weeks, months, years etc. This is obviously real important but sometime very illusive if we don’t focus on a different unit of time.

Well what unit of time is best to focus on? We must focus on the MOMENT. If we do everything we can to have as many great moments as we can then the aggregate of all those moments is going to be a great life.

When we think back on our fondest memories we typically don’t remember the whole day. We remember those Magic Moments that were so emotionally charged that our brains took a snap shot to hold onto them. We each want more of those and need to be deliberate about making it happen.

Remember to include others in your Magic Moments as much as you can. Not only will these moments improve your life but you will improve your relationships and the lives of those around you as well.

So what Magic Moments can you go out and create today? This weekend and then beyond?

“We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once.”
~Calvin Coolidge~

Trying to do everything at once often leads to the type of overwhelm that causes people to do nothing instead of doing what they can in any given situation. This quote strikes a cord with me because it is something I struggle with at times. I sometime feel like there is so much to do that I can fall into the trap of not doing the most important thing that is right in front of me.

One of the most practical examples I have ever heard as to how to handle this issue is based in the following question. How do you eat an elephant? The answer is simply one bite at a time! Not that any of us will ever be eating an elephant but I am sure you get the point. This is the same way we must deal with everything on our agenda for life.

What project do you have to accomplish that you have been holding back on because it seems so big and so difficult and so overwhelming that it is easier to just avoid? What one step if taken today could get this project started; not finished but just started? Take that one step and then another tomorrow and then one more the day after. Sooner rather than later you will have developed momentum which is exactly what it takes to move through paralysis and onto completion!

“A wishbone without a backbone is nothing at all.”
~George Zalucki~

We all have lots of desires in life; many, many things we are hoping and wishing for. The important question that comes along with this is what exactly are we doing about them? Without the will, the strength or as Mr. Zalucki put it, the backbone to go after our wishes they will be little more than fairy tales.

Today is Wednesday and we have reached the midway point of this week. Are you on pace to create the results you set out to? We must each move beyond a simple wish and onto the actions that will create the outcomes that matter most to us! You can do it put your back in to it (in my best Ice Cube voice…lol)!

“I am old enough to know that victory is often a thing deferred, and rarely at the summit of courage…What is at the summit of courage is freedom. The freedom that comes with the knowledge that no earthly thing can break you.”
~Paula Giddings~

Happy Monday Morning and Welcome to August Arise Ventures Fam!!! It’s the start of a brand new month, a brand new week but most importantly a brand new day!!! Ready to make the most of the opportunity that each one presents?

We are two/thirds of the way through 2011. Can you believe how quickly this year is going? Whether we realize it or not each of us has plenty of victories this year along with some others that have eluded us. Where do we go from here? The only right way is forward. Forward with a winning attitude that says that I will make my innermost desires reality. I will do this today, tomorrow and beyond! 2011 is my year and I’m going to live it moving in the direction of my highest potential. I will not be stopped!!!

Just because you haven’t won in any given area of your life does not mean that victory is beyond your grasp. It just means there’s some more work to do. Each and every one of us is a work in progress. I don’t know anyone who has arrived at their highest potential and has no where else to go. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t run into struggle and difficulty on a day to day basis and that don’t have anything left to overcome. I do know people who are constantly raising the bar in life and who are committed to constant and never ending improvement. Still I know others who allow even the smallest difficulties in their lives to break their spirits and keep them trapped in a world of I can’t, I don’t know how, nobody will help me etc. Which life do you want to live?

Today I choose to walk with the heart of a Lion! I will decide now what victories are in store for me today, this week, this month and the rest of this year! I will make these decisions with the understanding that no earthly thing can break me unless of course I allow it. Why would I do that? The answer is I won’t and I don’t believe any of you will either. Lets walk together and make this week amazing! Lets make this month memorable! Lets make the final 3rd of this year magical. The good life is our birthright if only we are willing to go about the business of taking it! Lets do it!!!
