I took a brief look at your site and will make sure to take a deeper dive as the example set by your great-great grandmother is one that more of us need know about.

As for the source of the quote, I got it from Dennis Kimbro's book "Daily Motivations for African American Success". It is his quote for January 11th.

Might I ask how you came across Arise Ventures?

We're always delighted to see examples of how Madam C. J. Walker, the early twentieth century entrepreneur and philanthropist, inspires others! Thanks so much for including her in Arise Ventures popular quote of the day. As her biographer and great-great-granddaughter, I've been doing research about her and gathering her quotations for nearly 30 years and had never come across this particular quotation. I'd love to know your source! For your files, I thought you might be interested in another of her quotations: "There is no royal, flower-strewn path to success, and if there is, I have not found it, for whatever success I have attained has been the result of much hard work and many sleepless nights. I got my start by giving myself a start. So don't sit down and wait for the opportunities to come. You have to get up and make them for yourself!"
